Avalanch Ranch...Redstone, Colorado

For one last little hoorah before school starts, we decided to spend a few night in Redstone. On the way we stopped at the Paonia Resevoir to fish and have lunch. But really, there's NO PLACE to sit on the bank and fish and eat. So we fished a little bit, then drove on to Redstone to eat. We ate a big sandwich I'd made the night before...

You dig out the middle of a loaf of french bread, load it up with stuff, putting sauces in between layers of meet so that your bread doesn't get soggy, and then squash it flast in the fridge...

It was okay...I didn't like the sauce I put on it.

The first night we got there, we had entertainment by Cowboy Steve and made S'mores. It was really fun. Would have been nice if it wasn't so chilly, but it was fun!

We drank coffee in the morning and the kids drank hot cocoa!

They want everyone to know that it's NOT Bloody Mary's in those cups...uh huh.

They had a pond stocked with fish on the property so daddy and the kids went fishing. They caught 6 fish. Then we had to gut them...

BayLea's face was hilarious...she hung in there though, for the duration of the gutting!

Pa is quite the fish gutter, I guess. Jery commented on him being a fish gutting machine. He grew up in Hot Sulphur Springs, and fished all day practically!

One afternoon we went down the highway about a mile and to some hotsprings next to the river...they might have been called Crystal River Hotsprings...they were just little places where the hot water was running from the mountain into the river. Someone had placed rocks around it so that there was some cool water in it too. The hot water was REALLY hot!

Jery is cooling off in the river...Breccan jumped into the water like that too!

Photobucket
Pa refused to get in...he was being difficult. I tried to 'bully' him in...I guess that is what it's called when you ask why he's not getting in.

Cowboy Keith...excellent entertainment!!!

Some people who were staying at the Ranch had horses they were boarding. The kids got to sit on the horse.

A bear dumped our cooler over one night. These are the claw puncture in the beer can...at first we thought it was a racoon, but the ground guy saw the can, and so Mimi told him we thought a racoon got it, and he said, no, there was bear poop just 30 feet away from our cabin. We even have puncture marks in our cooler where the bear tried to open the cooler.

We went into Aspen one afternoon. We got there and it was freezing!!! The kids didn't have coats with them, being wonder mom that I am, so we headed to the used stores to get something for them to wear. We found the Thrift Store, and got BayLea and Breccan a coat for $2.00, me a coat for $6, Jery a coat for $6, and Pa a cool coat for $8. We scored big time.

When we got back to the Ranch that afternoon, we went back to the pond. The kids rode the paddle boats and Jery fished (no luck this time though).
